Is One Of “The Bachelorette” Contestants Racist?

I don’t want to have to write about “The Bachelorette” every week. But the group of men they’ve assembled for this historic first are proving to be quite entertaining–in both good and bad ways.

Yesterday, we talked about DeMario coming to the show knowing good and well he hadn’t broken up with his girlfriend. A mistake that cost him his spot on the show, considering she had the receipts to prove he was a fraud and Rachel wasn’t taking any sh*t.

And every week just when we think one of the contestants has done the most annoying, most heinous thing possible, here comes another.

This week it’s aspiring country singer Lee Garrett. I remember bristling when I heard Garrett describe himself as “just a country boy.” Then again, I have my own issues with race, so I made a mental note but resolved to let Mr. Country show us who he really is.

Apparently, I should have gone with my first mind because the internet dug up some very disturbing tweets from Mr. Garrett.

And by disturbing, I mean

Islamophobic: “I don’t hate Muslims. I hate Islam…”

Anti gay: “After all this “gay community” talk, all these rainbow flags instead of American flags…”

Misogynistic: “Guys…When is the last time YOU actually saw a pretty feminist. There is a reason for this.”

Pro Trump: He reportedly wanted to see Barack Obama’s face when Trump was announced as the winner of the presidency.

and likely anti Black.

While his tweet might not have been an endorsement, he shared a link stating that people were attempting to label “Black Lives Matter” as a terrorist organization. He also shared another news article about destroying the liberal defense of Alton Sterling. And questioned the difference between the NAACP and the Klan.

The whole thing has people wondering if Garrett is a plant from the producers at ABC. After all, like never before, this is the season where Garrett may have the chance to interact with so many of the racial, ethnic, political and maybe even religious groups.

I just can’t believe that a good vetting from ABC doesn’t include a thorough Twitter search.

Do you think Garrett will present a problem on the show or will he be kicked off before he has chance to share some of these hateful opinions?
