After becoming the first woman to compete in the Miss Minnesota pageant while wearing a hijab and burkini in November, Halima Aden has had nowhere to go but up. She’s been on the cover of the CR Fashion Book, been interviewed by fellow Somali model and icon Iman, walked runway shows for Kanye West’s Yeezy Season 5, Max Mara and Alberta Ferretti, and now, she’s on the cover of an issue of Vogue. Big tings!

She’s the first woman to wear a hijab on the cover of the legendary fashion magazine.

Aden is front and center for the June issue of Vogue Arabia, and the 19-year-old is serving fierce fashion and faces, even with her adorable braces. The Somali-American beauty appeared in a feature for the magazine in April, and as the cover star, she’s talking about representation in the fashion world. “Every little girl deserves to see a role model that’s dressed like her, resembles her or even has the same characteristics as her,” she said in a behind-the-scenes video during her photo shoot. But Aden also made it clear in Vogue Arabia in April that she wants those who see her to know that she’s much more than just a model wearing a hijab.

“When I’m walking the runway I want people to see that, yes, I’m wearing a hijab – but I’m also a million other things,” Aden said. “I want us to get to a place where we just see women.” We definitely see her, and she’s quite the stunner. Here’s to more success and slayage for the model.
